What's It Like to Live Through a Remodel?

Posted by Matt Ates | February 01, 2018

Oftentimes, our clients who have never renovated before will ask us what it’s like to live through a home remodel in Dallas, TX. Our answer, of course, depends on the scope of their project. Projects like a hall bathroom remodel may be completed quickly and without significant interruption todaily routines. Today, however, we want to walk you through what it’s like to live through a more comprehensive remodel—a second-story remodel.

The Scope of Our Project

After we updated this client’s first floor in 2015, they called us back in to renovate their second story. While the owners of the home moved downstairs, we performed an entire remodel of their upstairs, including removing all popcorn ceilings, replacing baseboards and flooring, repainting all surfaces, and completely redoing their master bathroom, master bedroom, and Jack and Jill bathroom.

Our Recommendations for Living in-Home During a Remodel

Whenever we undertake a remodel of this size, we advise our clients to rearrange their lives as comfortablyas possible. For example, we recommended that the homeowners completely relocate their wardrobes, beds, and other personal items to their downstairsliving area, where they could continue to utilize them. We also suggested that they continue to follow their normal routines (regular mealtimes, exercise times, work schedules, etc.) as closely as possible. This allowed them to enjoy the actual transformation process of their home remodel in Dallasinstead of wishing to expedite the disruption.

The Jill and Jack Bathroom

Upstairs, we modernized and introduced light into the guest bathroom by painting all walls lighter colors, selecting white cabinetry, and maximizing light fixtures and natural light with large mirrors and glass materials. We also installed a large soaker tub with intricate tilework, a spacious walk-in shower, new cabinetry, flooring, and finishes.

The Guest Bedroom

We also put in plush carpet flooring and large, gorgeous windows, transforming this upstairs guest bedroom into a luxurious get-away.
